About Us
Tenfold Organic Textiles
Tenfold Organic is dedicated to sustaining the
environment by offering 100% naturally dyed
organic fabrics to consumers, manufacturers,
and retailers. We offer competitive prices and
excellent customer service. Whatever your
textile or home furnishing needs, we’re here to
help.
Using innovative technology with traditional dye
methods, our fabric is now available in commercial
quantities. Even in lengths over 1000 yards,
our colors are consistent throughout. The process
is versatile and may be applied to dye
yarns, towels, weaves and knits, as well as
silks.
Our fabric is certified with a SKAL / Control
Union Sustainable Textile Standards dye process,
using organic plants and minerals to
obtain rich, natural colors. Dye materials include: indigo leaves, madder root, aal wood,
cutechu, turmeric, pomegranate rind, myraballam,
onion skins, alum, and iron. No heavy
metals are used in the process. The colors are
unique, naturally occurring, and therefore
cannot be duplicated with synthetic dyes.
Leah Weinstein
Leah Weinstein received her Diploma in Fine Art from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada in 2001, and is currently completing her BFA. Between seasons of art school and tree-planting for a living, Leah spent time traveling throughout Africa and South East Asia. During her travels, she became fascinated with the incredible beauty of handcrafted textiles.
After making her first quilt during her graduating year of art school in 2001, quilts quickly became the focus of her work. Upon discovering organic cotton in 2002, Leah began to explore natural dyes. In the same year she purchased a Longarm quilting machine, which is a hand guided, free motion sewing machine that is used to "draw" the quilting stitches onto the quilt. This was the beginning of Leah Weinstein Designs.
As the quilts developed and demand increased, Leah decided to go to India in search of a supply of fairly traded, naturally dyed organic cotton. (To learn about our latest trip to India, visit our India Blog.)
For Leah, the process of designing and making quilts fulfills her desire to make beautiful functional objects, while at the same time addressing issues of environmental sustainability. Inspired to help make a change in the world of textiles, Leah founded Tenfold Organic Textiles in January 2006. Her brother Paul Weinstein officially joined the business in December 2006, marking the beginning of collaborative new growth.
Paul Weinstein
Paul earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in 1996. During his first four years at U.B.C, Paul played on the Varsity Volleyball team. In his fifth and final year, Paul worked part time at Urban Juice & Soda Co. as Operations Coordinator, helping to produce its new product, Jones Soda, which launched in 1996.
During the early years at Urban Juice & Soda, Paul quickly gained responsibility, achieving the position of Vice President, Operations in 1999 at the age of 26. Paul played key leadership roles during the company’s development in Production, Customer Service, Purchasing, Logistics and Product Development. This operational experience in a fast growing company provided Paul with an excellent foundation in business.
In April, 2000, Urban Juice & Soda (now Jones Soda Co.) moved its corporate head quarters to Seattle, WA along with its ten head office staff, including Paul. In 2002, Paul chose to join the Sales Management team to both broaden his experience and help lead the sales team through continued growth. While in the position of Vice President, Sales –West, Paul forged valuable relationships with Retailers and Distributors, developed key sales policies and procedures and helped further organize the sales team.
Paul began to look at his role in business and for ways to help promote both individual and corporate responsibility. In 2005, Paul developed a relationship with Seattle Public Utilities and through Jones Soda Co, supported efforts to raise awareness of Recycling by sponsoring High School recycling competitions and funding TV commercials to raise awareness. This effort was the seed that would later sprout into his commitment to join Tenfold Organic Textiles in 2006.
In addition to managing the day to day operations of Tenfold Organic Textiles, Paul is currently completing his MBA at the University of Washington. Paul is extremely grateful for his wife’s love and support and for his two beautiful daughters who are 2 and 4 years old.
